With wide open spaces and rugged landscapes, Campbeltown and South Kintyre provides a seriously romantic backdrop for your Valentines Day celebrations. Here are our suggestions for how to treat your loved one this Valentine’s Day.
A Romantic Beach Walk
If you are lovers of the great outdoors then what could be better than walking along a wide, sandy beach, listening to the waves crashing on the shore, with your loved one by your side? We’re spoiled for choice of beaches here but the 6 mile stretch from Westport to Machrihanish, with views out over the Atlantic, has to be one of our favourites for walking. (With the added bonus that you can cosy up in front of the fire in the Old Clubhouse in Machrihanish afterwards)
Love film?
The beautifully restored art deco Campbeltown Picture House provides a perfect setting to watch a classic love story. This Valentines Day they are screening the 30th Anniversary showing of one of the greatest love films ever, Ghost. (Still can’t quite believe that came out 30 years ago, but we’ll gloss over that part!) Get there early and snag one of the sofas for two at the back!
Reach for the Stars
Kintyre has very little light pollution so it’s the perfect place for stargazing. If it’s a clear night, grab a blanket, head for the countryside and lie back and look at the stars. Try around Southend or Bellochantuy for the best views.
Food (and Drink) of Love
For the foodie in your life, the Kintyre Larder will make you up a hamper full of tasty treats to share with your Valentine.
A Romantic Retreat
If you want to get away from it all, why not book a romantic getaway at one of our fantastic accommodation options? How about an eco cottage for two with fabulous views? A luxury guesthouse in the pretty village of Carradale? Or a cottage with hot tub (and gin distillery onsite)? Whatever you are looking for, you’re sure to find something in this beautiful part of the world.
