These easily-accessible caves make perfect bear-hunting* grounds for families with kids!

However, they are also of historical interest; these caves, like many in Kintyre, were actually inhabited until well into the late 19th century. An excavation in 1934 revealed a dug-out pit, filled with straw and used as a bed, and empty whisky bottles. This was thought to be a clear indication of modern cave dwelling.

Park in the car park next to Carskiey beach and then walk back along the road and go through the signposted gate. Heading left takes you to the Caves and right to St Columbas Footprints & Well. The area in front of the caves can be quite overgrown with nettles and bracken in the summer so take care not to get stung!
